Community Involvement

At Woods & Aitken, serving the community means more than just providing outstanding legal services - it means active involvement. The Firm, as well as each attorney, is committed to making the Lincoln, Omaha and Washington D.C. communities better places to work, live and raise a family. We are equally dedicated to improving the legal profession, as well as the industries in which we actively practice each day.

The number of community, industry and professional boards and organizations upon which our attorneys serve is too large to feature and growing each day. Learn more about the Firm's community involvement the next time you speak with one of our attorneys or e-mail a specific question to Jennifer Strand.

About the Bicycle: The bicycle shown here was purchased by Woods & Aitken as part of the Lincoln Arts Council's Tour de Lincoln fundraising campaign. It's one of the many ways the Firm and its members invest in the communities we serve.

Woods & Aitken Contributions Provide Nearly $13,000 in Value for Food Bank

Woods & Aitken's first year of participation in the Food Bank of Lincoln's Campaign Against Hunger was a success. The cash contributions made by the Firm's attorneys and staff amounted to $12,840.00 worth of food the Food Bank of Lincoln could purchase for those in need in Lincoln and southeast Nebraska.

In addition, well over 100 different food items such as canned vegetables, cereal, juice, peanut butter, and macaroni and cheese were donated by individuals in the Firm.

Vickie Starr, the Firm's Assistant Office Manager, led the Firm's efforts to support the Food Bank. She observed, "When one considers the outstanding quality of life we enjoy in the Midwest, it's hard to believe that one-in-ten children go hungry in our community. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to do our part."

The Campaign Against Hunger is a collaborative effort between the Food Bank of Lincoln and area businesses that focuses on feeding hungry children in Lincoln and southeast Nebraska. Last year's Campaign totaled over 182,000 pounds of food and over $53,000. Learn more at www.lincolnfoodbank.org.

Woods & Aitken Co-Sponsors KEVA Exhibit at Lincoln Children's Museum

Woods & Aitken LLP is a proud co-sponsor of the KEVA exhibit that opened March 15, 2007, at the Lincoln Children's Museum. The exhibit, which is the first permanent large-scale exhibit added to the Museum since its opening in 2000, contains over 20,000 planks and is one of the largest KEVA collections in the world.

"This sponsorship was a wonderful opportunity for the Firm," said Joel Heusinger, a member of the Firm's management committee and a construction law specialist. "It's a truly unique opportunity for children in Lincoln to explore their innate ability to construct and create, as well as expand the boundaries of their own skills and imaginations."

According to the Museum's Web site, KEVA "planks" are perfectly cut, identical construction blocks made from maple allowing easy stacking and easy construction of almost anything that can be imagined. Whether the builder is a toddler taking the blocks out of the container, stacking them and putting them away, or the 10 year-old creating a spiral staircase inside a tall building, KEVA planks encourage fun and learning at any skill level.
